About Dr. Upendra Kumar
Dr. Upendra Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Science at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. His research integrates both computational and experimental condensed matter physics, with a strong emphasis on electroceramics, oxide materials, and multifunctional materials systems. His work spans electronic structure theory, solid-state ionics, dielectric and ferroelectric materials, energy harvesting, and next-generation energy storage technologies. Dr. Kumar completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physics and M.Sc. in Solid State Physics from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 2012 and 2014, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from IIT (BHU) Varanasi in 2019, where he specialized in Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) oxides, perovskite-type oxide materials, and structure–property correlations in functional ceramics. Before joining IIIT Allahabad, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Science at Banasthali Vidyapith, where he was deeply involved in both academic and administrative responsibilities. He made significant contributions to institutional quality assurance and NAAC accreditation activities, while also advancing research in ferrites, energy harvesters, Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and solid oxide fuel cells. At present, four Ph.D. scholars are working under his supervision, and three have successfully completed their doctoral degrees under his guidance. He is committed to training young researchers in advanced materials science, fostering interdisciplinary research, and building strong collaborative networks.
Dr. Kumar has been elected as a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), holds the distinction of Senior Member of IEEE, and has been recognised among the world’s top 2% Scientists in Physics and Materials Science by Elsevier and Stanford University. He serves as: Academic Editor, Advances in Condensed Matter Physics (Wiley), Editorial Board Member, Scientific Reports (Springer Nature). Dr. Kumar has published extensively in leading international journals in Physics, Ceramics, Electroceramics, and Materials Science, and has delivered research presentations at numerous national and international conferences, workshops, and symposiums. His scientific contributions have earned him multiple national and international recognitions, particularly in the domains of electroceramics, oxide materials, and functional materials for energy applications. Beyond his research and teaching, Dr. Kumar actively contributes to national professional bodies, committees, and scientific associations, continually advancing the fields of condensed matter physics and materials science through leadership, collaboration, and scholarly excellence.
